The client

The University of Surrey is situated in the heart of Guildford and has around 14,000 students and 2,500 staff. The university is renowned for its engineering-focused degrees but also has links to the UK’s space programme, cyber security, the BBC and the forthcoming ‘5G’ network development.

 
 

The challenge

The university has a large deployment of Macs, primarily in shared labs, and also laptops for staff members. All of these devices were managed from ageing Apple Xserves running VMware and a mixture of operating systems.

 
 

Our solution

As a specialist faculty and champions of Apple support, they understood what our datajar.mobi service could bring to the university and how it would future-proof their infrastructure with support for Apple’s Device Enrolment Programme and Volume Purchase Programme.

Delivery of the project took around 7 days. The first stage involved packaging all Apple software used within the campus and the setup of all onsite infrastructure. Next came configuring of workflows and policies and testing. A JumpStart training course was delivered to onsite staff before the system went into production.

Datajar continues to act as a silent partner, managing the infrastructure and service on a day-to-day basis as part of the University’s ongoing support.
